International Boardgames

Although the global history of classic boardgames dates back several centuries (Chess, Mensch-Ärger-Dich-Nicht being some of the oldest concepts), the great variety of boardgames as we know them started only in the middle of the 20th Century. The game Monopoly which was first released in the 1920's indicated the way for later games, and a few decades later some producers in different countries around the globe started manufacturing the first modern boardgames, departing from the traditional gaming concepts.

If you look at the market today, you see a strong dominance of german boardgames, but this has not always been this way. Especially the US-based company Milton-Bradley (MB) was in the market long before the german producers, and even today Hasbro and other companies a strong representatives in the boardgames market.

With only marginal access to the really old US-products, I will present only a choice of old and new international games below. As time goes by, I hope to fill this section with more life, but for the time being I only present those games which I considered worthwhile to test...
